Trip introduction

Jiri Pikey Peak Trek offers excellent trekking opportunities at lower elevations in the Khumbu region. Pikey got its name from the titles of the local Sherpa community. This journey offers amazing views of the high Everest Himalayan ranges, especially during sunrise and sunset. Along with Sherpa tradition and culture we also encounter diversified floras and faunas like Himalayan Thar, rhododendron trees, orchid flowers, and more.

We embark on Jiri Pikey Peak Trekking after the completion of our sightseeing and necessary preparations. During the initial day, we drive from Kathmandu to Shivalaya and trek to Bhandara, Namkheli, and Pikey Dada. Excellent views of Mount Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Thamserku, Amadablam, and the other Himalayas are visible from Pikey Hill.

Enjoy a visit to local monasteries such as Chewang monastery, experience the Tamang, Magar, and Sherpa lifestyle and their cultures, dramatic scenery of mountains and landscapes, mani walls and Buddhist stupa, alpine vegetation, Himalaya floras, and faunas, centuries-old monasteries, mani stones. After crossing Pikey Peak, we descend towards Thutungchhelli Monastery, also known as Little Tibet. Further, we trek to Junbesi, Sete via Lamazura La pass, and finally, drive back to Kathmandu from Shivalaya.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu::

Welcome to the land of the Himalayas! After your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport, a representative of Nepal Mountain Trekkers shall be waiting there to pick you up. You shall be transferred to your respective hotel and then into your rooms so that you can relax your jetlagged body for tomorrow’s sightseeing tour. Stay overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 2 : Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek Preparation::

Today to adjust ourselves to the environment of this nation and to explore the natural beauty & architectural excellence of Kathmandu valley, we shall have a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu. We shall pay a visit to the Hindu pilgrimage of Pashupatinath Temple, an epitome of the faith and belief of Hindus all over the world. Similarly, we shall also visit the Buddhist holy places of Swayambhunath Stupa, a 14th-century old Stupa which is also known as the Monkey Temple owing to the monkeys in the northwest of the Stupa, and Boudhanath Stupa which is one of the biggest stupas in the world. Sightseeing may also include the exploration of architectural masterpieces in the Patan Durbar Square and Kathmandu Durbar squares, the ancient royal complexes in the city. Later in the afternoon, we shall have a pre-trek meeting with the trekking guide to have the necessary information for the trek beginning the next day. Stay overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 3 : Drive from Kathmandu to Shivalaya (1,790m/5,872 ft): 210 km 7/8 hours::

We start our trek today with a scenic and picturesque drive to Shivalaya which is situated at an elevation of 1,790 meters and it consumes 7 to 8 hours of extensive drive. After completing the drive to Shivalaya you will check in a lodge and have some rest. Stay overnight at Shivalaya.

Day 4 : Trek to Bhandara (2,200m/7,217 ft): 5/6 hours::

Today as usual we trek ahead with a new destination on our mind. So we shall set out and start trekking from Shivalaya to Bhandar through Bharkaur, Mani Danda which is situated at an elevation of 2,440 meters. The whole trekking trail is followed by many uphill and downhill pathways, so be ready to walk for about 5 to 6 hours. Following the parallel paths after few hours you arrive in Bhandara. Stay overnight at Bhandara.

Day 5 : Bhandara to Namkheli (2,300m/7,545 ft): 6hours::

Staying on our planned course we now head on towards Namkheli. By making slightly an upward movement we start trekking to Namkheli which is placed at an elevation of 2,300 meters and it takes 6 hours to accomplish the trek. Here, you can check Bhandar and Thotung too and the interesting fact is that there exist 5 airports which are close to it. Among them, the closest one is Jiri Airport which is only 18.9 km from Namkheli. Stay overnight at Namkheli.

Day 6 : Trek to Ngomar Gumpa (2,800m/9,186 ft): 6/7 hours::

On the next day from Namkheli, we shall take you to culturally prosperous Ngomar Gumpa which is placed at an elevation of 2,800 meters. Today we walk for about 6 to 7 hours while taking some break in the meantime. And after few hours we start descending to finally arrive in Ngomar Gumpa. Stay overnight at Ngomar Gumpa.

Day 7 : Trek to Pikey Dada (4,070m/13,353 ft): 4/5 hours::

Continuing our trek from Ngomar Gumpa we shall move onward to Pikey Dada which is situated at an elevation of 4,070 meters within 4 to 5 hours of trek. From the Pikey Dada, you have the opportunity to get attention-grabbing mountain vistas which can be observed from Pikey Peak, and then we can go down to Jhapre. Stay overnight at Pikey Dada.

Day 8 : Trek from Pikey Dada to Junbesi (2,675m/8,776 ft): 7 hours::

Spending a day at Pikey Dada has already helped you to gain the picture of Pikey Hill which is full of amazing memoirs. So now you can ascend the peak and during the ascending, you are generated with the delightful vistas of mountain peak along with the sunrise. The mountains like Kanchenjunga to Dhaulagiri counting Everest can be outlook from here. Afterward, you will again trek to Junbesi which is positioned at an elevation of 2,675 meters. Stay overnight at Junbesi.

Day 9 : Hike to Thutungchheli Monastery (little Tibet)::

Waking up early in the morning we begin trekking towards Thutungchheli Monastery which is positioned at an elevation of 3,050 meters. This monastery is well-known as the Little Tibet where you can perceive the traditional Tibetan Medical Therapy. From there you will again find the way back to Junbesi (2,700m). Today the trekking duration is 5 to 6 hours. Stay overnight at Junbesi.

Day 10 : Junbesi to Sete (2,520m/8,267 ft) via Lamazura-la (3,530m/11,581 ft): 6/7hours::

Leaving Junbesi we now set out to continue the trek by approaching upward movement, as we have to ascend through Lamazura covering 3,530 meters. After that we have to trek downward to Sete which is positioned at an elevation of 2,520 meters, seizing 6 to 7 hours. Initially, the first ascent is quite steep and then it traverses to Sete which is a Sherpa village populated mostly by Sherpa people. Stay overnight at Sete.

Day 11 : Sete to Bhandara (2,200m/7,217 ft): 6 hours::

Now continuing our trek, on this day we start the trek by heading towards Bhandar with an altitude of 2,200 meters and it normally consumes up to 6 hours of hiking. The trekking trail drops downward to Shivalaya so that you can find it easy while hiking to Shivalaya on the next day. Stay overnight at Bhandar.

Day 12 : Bhandara to Shivalaya (1,790m/5,872ft): 5 hours::

Making another downward movement, we descend to Shivalaya that is going to make your outlook Sangbadanda and Bhandar. You can perhaps take the alternative route amid Bhandar and Sangbadanda. Since this is the last day of trekking you can spend quality time in the lodge as you need to pack the baggage as well and also can thank the porters and other helpers who have helped you throughout the trek. Stay overnight at Shivalaya.

Day 13 : Drive back to Kathmandu::

On the following day, we take a drive to Kathmandu after enjoying the trip. Enjoying the scene from the window of the bus and local food you will turn up in Kathmandu. Turning up to Kathmandu you will take pleasant sleep in a comfortable bed. Stay overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 14 : Departure Day::

Your Jiri Pikey Peak Trek full of adventure, excitement, enriching experiences, and exploration of natural, historical, and cultural heritages has now come to an end today. If you haven’t extended the stay in Nepal, we shall assist you with your onward flight to your destination. A representative of Nepal Mountain Trekkers shall escort you to the Tribhuwan International Airport for your flight. We are sure that you’ve enjoyed one of the best holidays trip ever & will go back home with unforgettable memories of this amazing country.
