Rara short trek is an uncomplicated and straightforward trek that gives us a quick and short trek to Rara Lake with wonderful opportunities to discover the biggest and deepest lake of Nepal. Magnificently gorgeous-looking Rara Lake cuddles up at an altitude of approximately 3000 meters; with an estimated area space of about 11 sq. km. Located inside the Rara National Park, Rara Lake in terms of visual perspective is a very picturesque lake secluded and unblemished from the outside world.
A journey to Rara Lake is one of the most implausible and mesmerizing treks in all the Himalayan ranges. Our 12-day Rara short trek to Rara Lake with us begins at Talcha. After a couple of short flights from Kathmandu to Nepaljung and then to the mountainous airport of Talcha. Whereas, Rara Lake is hardly a half-day trek away from the Talcha Airport.
Surrounded by the lush vegetation in all directions, Rara Lake is not only ringed by the wonderful woods of pine, spruce, and juniper; it also has hundreds of species of wildflowers and herbal plants prospering at its shores. Likewise, we hike to Murma top for the day exploration around this pristine Lake. As well as, the great views of stunning Rara Lake, the lush forest surrounding it. And the snow-capped mountain peaks soaring up to the skyline.
Rara Lake Short Trek is just the thing for the travel enthusiasts who are looking onward for wilderness; and a grand solitude trek. We shall also visit the Murma Village where we can get a little glimpse into the lifestyle and cultures of people in small settlements who have made this heavenly place their home.
And after a day of exploring, our short trek shall end with a return back to Talcha for a flight to Kathmandu. On the other hand, our short trek also possesses two extra alternative routes moving through different places from the ninth. Meaning you shall have even more bountiful opportunities to explore other hidden spots of this enchanting region.
Generally, any reasonably fit person can join our Rara Short Trek as this trek doesn’t involve too many challenging terrains. Whereas, March to June and September to November can be considered as the best trekking season for this trek. And this trek can be carried out even during the monsoon June to September as it sits in the rain shadow area.

Day 1 : Arrive at Kathmandu:
Today is the first day of your adventure! When you arrive at Kathmandu airport, someone from our team will be waiting to welcome you. They’ll take you to your hotel in the city. Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal and has busy streets, colorful shops, and lots of temples. After checking into your hotel, you can take a rest or explore nearby places like Thamel, which is full of food, shops, and fun things to see.
Day 2 : Sightseeing and trek preparation:
This is a fun and easy day. In the morning, we take you to see some of the most famous places in Kathmandu. You might visit temples like Swayambhunath (also called Monkey Temple) or the big Boudhanath Stupa. These places are beautiful and full of history. After lunch, we help you get ready for your trek by checking your gear, giving tips, and answering questions. You’ll feel excited knowing you’re about to head to the peaceful Rara region!
Day 3 : Flight Kathmandu to Nepalgunj (150m/490ft):
Today, you take a short flight to a town called Nepalgunj. It’s in the southern part of Nepal, near the Indian border. The weather here is warmer and flatter compared to the mountains. After landing, we take you to a hotel where you can relax. Nepalgunj is a small, busy town, and people usually come here before flying into the mountains. It’s a great place to rest before the real adventure begins!
Day 4 : Flight Nepalgunj to Talcha Airport (2,752m/9,028ft):
This is a very exciting day. You take a scenic flight from Nepalgunj to Talcha, a small mountain airport near Rara Lake. The flight takes you above green hills, forests, and rivers. Once you land, you’ll feel the change in air and scenery. Talcha is quiet and surrounded by nature. You can take an easy walk and enjoy the fresh mountain air while getting ready to see Rara Lake soon.
Day 5 : Talcha to Rara walk with beautiful nature fine forest and clean fresh water:
Now the real trekking begins! Today, you walk for a few hours through pine trees and peaceful hills. The path is not very hard, and the fresh smell of the forest is amazing. You may hear birds and see small streams along the way. After a few hours, you’ll arrive at Rara Lake—the largest lake in Nepal. It’s big, blue, and surrounded by green hills and snow-capped peaks. When you see the lake, it will feel like a dream!
Day 6 : Relax and boating:
Today is a rest day. You don’t have to hike anywhere. Instead, you enjoy the beauty of Rara Lake. You can go for a boat ride, sit by the lake, or take a walk along the edge. The water is super clear and calm, and the area is quiet and full of birds. This is a perfect day to relax, take pictures, write in your journal, or simply enjoy the peace around you.
Day 7 : Day hike to Murma top and back to Rara:
After breakfast, you go for a hike to Murma Top, a high point near Rara Lake. The trail goes uphill, but it’s not too long. From the top, you get an amazing view of the entire lake and the surrounding hills. On a clear day, you might even see faraway mountains like the Dhaulagiri range. After taking photos and enjoying the views, you walk back down to your lodge at the lake.
Day 8 : Visit for Murma village to see the art of life.:
Today, you take a short walk to Murma Village, where local people live simple lives. You’ll see traditional houses made of stone and wood, small farms, and animals like cows and goats. The villagers are friendly and may invite you to their homes for tea. This is a great way to learn how people live in remote areas of Nepal. You get to see a different side of life—far from big cities.

Today is your last trekking day. You walk downhill to a town where the trek ends. And take a flight back to Nepalgunj.

In the morning, you take your final flight back to Kathmandu. You’ll return to your hotel and have free time to shop, eat good food, or just rest.
Day 12 : Departure Day:
Time to say goodbye! We’ll take you to the airport and wave farewell as you head home with beautiful memories from Rara.
