Lukla to Tumlingtar Trek trail links one of the most popular trekking regions Everest and Makalu. All the way through to the two passes in the valley; the Salpa pass and the Surkie La pass, our trekking trail shall lead us to the holy lake known as Salpa Pokhari. Furthermore, we will enjoy the excellent views of Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyo, and Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Pumori, Thamserku. As well as other numerous peaks of the Mahalangur Himalayan range in the eastern part of Nepal Himalaya along the trail.

Firstly, this amazing trekking adventure starts as we board a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Our trekking trail shall take you between the Sagarmatha and Makalu Barun National Parks. During our initial trekking days, we make our way through beautiful landscapes in the culturally affluent Sherpa villages of Paiya, Panggom, Najingdingma, Bung, and Sanam before reaching Salpa Pokhari.
In fact, very few tourists discover and explore this fascinating trek route; home to Kulung and Sherpa tribal communities with conventional traditions and cultures, that haven’t been tainted or altered for countless centuries. Moreover, our trekking trail passes along the holy lake Salpa Pokhari (3,458m), beautiful waterfalls, and many Sherpa settlements. Being at an altitude of 3,358 meters the topmost point of our trek shall be Salpa Bhanjyang. Likewise, this trekking region has the blessings of an incredible diversity of nature and culture.
The heady scent of pine trees, the tender sound of rivulets, and the tweeting of birds alongside the extravagant views of rhododendron forest, shrubs & bushes shall be experienced on our Lukla to Tumlingtar trek trail. Noticeably different than other popular trekking routes in this region. Finally, as we get to the end of our trek; we shall pass Salpa Phedi to reach our next destination, Gothe Bazaar. Afterward, we shall descend downwards to Tumlingtar via Majwa and Kartiki Ghat. And so here we shall conclude our short yet amazing trek with a flight back to Kathmandu from Tumlingtar.
It is a reasonably restrained trekking path that is comprised of a rewarding journey through beautiful villages, forests, and alpine surroundings all the way up to the summit. However, for our Lukla to Tumlingtar Trek, it is not required to have any preceding mountaineering and trekking knowledge. Generally, the best preferred season for this trekking is from March to May and August to December. However, this trek is possible to embark on throughout the entire year. Day 1 : Arrive in Kathmandu:
Just after your arrival in Kathmandu (Tribhuvan International Airport ), our representative will pick you up in a private vehicle and take you to the hotel where you will be welcomed with a marigold garland and you’ll be staying overnight in there with some refreshments.
Day 2 : Sightseeing and preparation for trek.:
On this day you will be preparing for your trek including packing and arranging equipment. You will get introduced to the team and the trek guide and get a briefing from our experts about the program. In the meantime, you can enjoy sightseeing around nearby places or something like that.
Day 3 : Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla then trek to Paiya (2,730m/8,956 ft):
After having your early meal, you will be transferred to the airport to catch a short domestic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the gateway to Everest. In just 45 minutes of flight, we get a wonderful chance to view snow-capped mountains and will be landing between the hills at Tenzing-Hillary airstrip in no time. After arriving at Lukla, we get introduced to our trekking crew and start our trekking activity towards Paiya. From Lukla, it is about 5-6 hours of the walk at a leisurely pace to reach Paiya. Initiating the journey by climbing down the steep hill toward Surke and then ascending towards Paiya La Pass aka Chutok La Pass (2,945m / 9,662 ft) passing through several small settlements and alpine forests, we will reach Paiya Village where we will be staying overnight in a lodge.
Day 4 : Paiya to Panggom (2,850m/9,350 ft):
From Paiya, we trek down until we arrive at a small wooden bridge (above Paiya Khola) and keep moving towards Kharte crossing Kari La Pass (3,145m) along the slippery and narrow trail. Then we will go downhill through the forest of oak, birch, bamboo, and rhododendron, and cross six ancient Mani walls to reach Pangum. We will stay overnight at Panggom.
Day 5 : Panggom to Najingdingma (2,910m/9,547 ft):
From Panggom, we start the trek by ascending towards Narkhung/Panggom La Pass (3,286m) from where you can enjoy the marvelous views of Everest Ranges, Mera Peak (6,470m), rough forested valleys, and Najingdingma from faraway. Further, the trail leads us to Sibuje village with lodges and a small gompa. Walkthrough the bamboo, birch, and rhododendron forest on stone stairs to finally ascend up to Najingdingma (2,650m) where we stay overnight on this day.
Day 6 : Najingdingma to Bung (1,677m/5,500 ft):
This is a very interesting and exciting day. You will be walking through the ridge, to ascend the Surke La Pass (3,085m) from Najingdingma. And enjoying the astounding vistas of mountain ranges and Hongu valley, we will descend towards the settlements of Bung. Bung is inhabited by Rai and other similar cultural groups and is highly influenced by Buddhism. We can spot several Mani walls and Chortens there. Stay overnight at Bung.
Day 7 : Bung to Sanam (2,850m/9,350 ft):
Today we will be walking down to Hongu Khola and pass several exciting settlements including the Rai inhabited Gudel village, Chachalung, and Sorung before reaching Sanam. Along the way, we will be noticing large stone sculptures imprinted with Buddhist mantras, cascading waterfalls, and several wooden bridges, and walk thru Rhododendron, Chir Pine, and Brown Oak forests. Stay overnight at Sanam.
Day 8 : Sanam to Guranse via Salpa pokhari (3,350m/10,990 ft):
This is the day you will be reaching the highest point of this trek i.e., Salpa Bhanjyang (3,350m) with a steep climb. The trek will commence with a long steep climb up to the pass from where you will have an amazing view of the holy lake of Salpa Pokhari and the valley. Continuing the journey further trekking thru Rhododendron forests, terraced fields, and several small settlements where resides the indigenous Sherpa People, we reach Guranse where we shall stay overnight tonight.
Day 9 : Guranse to Phedi (2,760m/9,055 ft):
We will be descending towards Salpa Phedi from Guranse today via lush bushes, picturesque small settlements, crossing several small bridges, and enjoying the eye-dazzling sceneries of mountain ranges including Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Mera Peak, and of course, the mighty Everest. Stay Overnight at Phedi.
Day 10 : Salpa Phedi to Gothe Bazaar (1,128m/3,700 ft):
From Salpa Phedi, we will be passing several other villages like Dobhane, Balwa Besi, Marduwa, Dingla, etc. before we reach our destination for the day, Gothe Bazaar. On our journey, we will be crossing several small bridges made of bamboo over the rivers, ascending and descending thru ridges, and walking through tropical forests enriched with cardamom, banana, and papaya trees. We will be staying overnight at Gothe Bazaar where resides the indigenous Gurung and Rai people.
Day 11 : Gothe Bazaar to Majwa (2,550m/8,366 ft):
After our breakfast, we will move towards Majwa with not so difficult trekking journey today. We shall be passing alongside the Irkhuwa Khola that joins the Arun River. We will have several uphill and downhill hiking today and pass through several local settlements, bushes, and riversides. Stay Overnight at Majwa.
Day 12 : Majwa to Kartiki Ghat (457m/1,499 ft):
Just like the previous day, we will be walking alongside the Arun River, actually, the classic trail to Makalu Trekking. We will trek thru small roads, pass several villages, terraced fields where they cultivate various cash crops including Cardamom, the most significant in the region, and cross suspension bridges, also some jungle walk thru sub-tropical forests before we reach Kartiki Ghat where we shall stay overnight tonight. Kartiki Ghat is mostly popular for bees and honey.
Day 13 : Kartiki Ghat to Tumlingtar (410m/1,345 ft):
To conclude our adventure in Eastern Nepal, we will commence the day with an early morning hike towards Tumlingtar. As the name of the trek suggests, it is Lukla to Tumlingtar Trek and hence commencing from Lukla and concluding at Tumlingtar is the main motto of this trek. From Kartike we will walk past several villages like Bheteni, Chewabesi, Kumal Gaon, and other small settlements with significant local culture and lifestyles. Also, the banks of the Arun River, the forested trails, and the magnificent vistas of Makalu and Chamlang Peaks along the journey will accompany us this day. Stay overnight at Tumlingtar.
Day 14 : Flight from Tumlintar to Kathmandu:
Flying along the gigantic peaks and over the green and lush hills, we shall reach Kathmandu after a flight of around 50 minutes. You shall be transferred to the hotel where you can take a rest for the whole day, get in touch with your loved ones or go for some souvenir shopping later in the day. Pack your bags for the onward journey and later in the evening celebrate the successful accomplishment of the Lukla to Tumlingtar trek with other team members. Stay overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 15 : Farewell Day:
Today will be your final day in Nepal, and after you get ready for your international flight, we drop you at Tribhuvan International Airport for your scheduled international flight towards your onward destination.
